THE TEAM
Greg Peters, CExP™
CEO & Founder, Lafayette Square Financial Advisors
Greg Peters is the founder of Lafayette Square and a Certified Exit Planner (CExP™), helping business owners across the Bay Area build lasting business value and plan for what comes next, whether that’s continuity, retirement, or a sale.
I didn’t originally plan on a career in finance. In 1978, I was a recent graduate of Cal, drafted as an offensive lineman by the Dallas Cowboys under head coach Tom Landry. Back then, I’d hear veteran players talk about what they were going to do with their money — buying a liquor store, a car dealership, one big idea or another. Over time, it occurred to me that even very successful people were often guessing when it came to their finances, and that good guidance could make a real difference in their lives.
My football career ended a few months later with an injury, and I turned my focus to finance, beginning my career at Drexel Burnham Lambert, then one of Wall Street’s most prominent investment banks. It was there that I learned the business — and found I kept thinking back to those conversations in the locker room. Eventually I returned home to the Bay Area to build a business around guiding people through their financial matters.
I founded Lafayette Square on a straightforward belief: people make better decisions when someone they trust helps them see the whole picture.
That belief hasn’t changed, but the firm has grown. What started as managing individual portfolios has become a full financial planning practice serving individuals, families, and business owners. Over the past several years, I’ve focused on building a team, so that the relationships we create here last well beyond any one advisor. That’s the accomplishment I’m most proud of.
Outside the office, family is at the center of everything. My wife Kristen and I have made our home in the Bay Area for many years, and Lafayette is where we’ve planted our roots. We have two grown sons and four grandchildren, and we spend as much time with them as we can. When we’re not busy with the kids, Kristen and I love to travel, hike, and explore the California coast together.
